Free Seminar Targets Expos and Networking Events

The Small Business Center at the Dedman Center for Business Leadership, Sandhills Collins_MikeCommunity College, is offering a free seminar entitled, “Never Meet a Stranger: Guerrilla Marketing for Networking Events, Trade Shows and Expos” on Wednesday, August 24, from 4-7 pm in 102 Van Dusen Hall, Sandhills Community College.

Presenter Mike Collins is president of The Perfect Workday Company, an information company based in The Research Triangle Region of North Carolina. He presents 100+ programs a year for organizations such as IBM, American Express, Novo Nordisk Pharmaceuticals and The John F. Kennedy Special Warfare School and Center. Collins has authored four books and hundreds of business articles in publications such as Newsweek, American Banker, BUSINESS: North Carolina and Triangle Business Journal.

“Trade shows, expos and networking events are excellent ways to attract business if you understand that they are netWORKing events. They are not net-eating, net-visiting, net-standing-around-waiting-for-someone-to-talk-to-you-events,” says Collins. “These events can establish your credibility, help you meet new prospects, and give you the opportunity to mingle with current customers and allies. You can even practice new sales techniques.”

In a recent article in Business 2 Community, author Timothy Carter says, “Trade shows offer big benefits to businesses of any size. By combining exposure to a large number of potential leads with the ability to interact personally, trade shows offer an experience for both the business and attendee that other forms of marketing cannot. Though virtual events and other technologies are slowly gaining popularity, few marketing methods compete with the potential of trade shows.”

“Shows and exhibits can be a terrible waste of time and money if you do not create a workable plan and execute it,” continues Collins. “Event visitors come specifically because of their connection to your market so you are meeting fewer suspects and more prospects.”

In the seminar, you will learn how to determine your networking and show mission, how to integrate networking with your ongoing marketing efforts, how to create the most effective type of booth and exhibit, how to turn contacts into sales, how to follow up after an event and how to work an event if you are not exhibiting.
