Treasured Jewels was created in July 2013 with the encouragement of Scherer’s husband, John and Judy Cairns, her close friend. Debuting a private showing in her home in December 2013, Scherer’s love for the arts and crafts circuit and her love for craft shows and fairs, was ignited.
“I began beading in 2007 while living in South Africa and continued after my return to the states in 2010. In 2013, at the urging of my husband and a good friend, I began entering craft festivals to showcase my jewelry creations. I have developed a website and am in the process of building an Etsy shop for on-line sales.
In 2014, when I decided to turn my consuming hobby into a home based business, I turned to the The Thomas Family Center at UNCP and the Small Business Center at SCC for guidance on building a sound business from the ground up. They have helped in so much in knowing what’s involved in starting a business to bookkeeping and marketing strategies. I continue learning and growing as they are there to help me in the process.”
